2014 Destination Travel Plans

Ivan Orsic / Apr 28, 2014

Destination travel is a very big interest for a lot of our customers here at Trouts Fly Fishing. We have some extremely seasoned anglers who spend a significant of time each year researching new destinations and returning to amazing fisheries across the globe. We also have a number of clients who are looking to branch out for the first time. From steelhead in the Pacific Northwest, redfish in Louisiana to chasing bonefish, permit and tarpon in the Caribbean, there is no doubt that traveling and fly fishing are a great combination.

To that end, I think it is important that my staff is equally well traveled. Last year Cody visited British Columbia to chase steelhead, Rick was able to hook mako sharks off the coast of San Diego and Will had an epic adventure in Honduras targeting permit. This year I’m sending the team back out to explore once again and we hope to share their adventures as well as what they learn before, during and after their trips. This will include pre-trip reports, thoughts on gear and preparation, real-time trip reports (when technologically possible), and post trip fly fishing reports.

Without further ado, here is what you can expect from the Trouts crew this year. Will Rice has booked a trip through our destination travel partner Yellow Dog Flyfishing Adventures and will be heading down to Whipray Caye in Belize in early May. He’ll be fishing for permit and tarpon fairly exclusively. Later in June, Cody will be taking his first ever trip to the Caribbean and fishing for bonefish, permit, tarpon and barracuda. Later in the summer, Rick will be heading up to Alaska and targeting all five species of pacific salmon, Dolly Varden, big rainbows and possibly steelhead. Kevin will be heading off to a few trout destinations here in the states. In addition to my recent trip to Argentina earlier in this year, I'm hoping to get a few days of tarpon fishing later in the spring down in the Florida Keys.

If you are thinking about targeting a new destination and beginning to explore the country or the globe, I invite you to begin your journey here at Trouts Fly Fishing. Destination travel – both to fresh and saltwater locations – is part of our DNA. We want to help you get the most out the time you get to spend on the water. My plan is to continue to invest in a travel program and also to offer opportunities for our clients to join hosted destination trips - like the one we had earlier this year to Andros South Lodge in the Bahamas. Also, we will offer hosted trips that are closer to home like Hosted Trip to the Rio Grand River in June (this trip is SOLD OUT) and the Our Hosted Trip to the Big Laramie River in July (2 Spots Left!).

Please don’t hesitate to give us a call or to stop into the shop at 303.733.1434 as our staff has traveled extensively in many countries and has fished hard here continental United States. We would like to earn your trust and become a trusted adviser when you are making your travel plans and thinking about equipment and rigging.

So stay tuned for what we have on tap for the remaining year. One thing is for sure, we know that you will be fishing hard here and Colorado and beyond and we plan to do the same.
