Clear Creek

Latest Update-- 4/14/22

During the summer months, Clear Creek has fishable water from Golden all the way to Loveland Ski Resort. Up high above Georgetown, there is a good mix of species including some nice cutthroats when not full of ice. Fishing around Golden and the lower canyon is a great option for those who do not have much time to get out and fish and are looking to stay near Denver, especially in the spring. In the lower stretches below Idaho Springs it is a mixed bag of Rainbows, Brook Trout, and Brown Trout.

Clear Creek has been fishing well lately. Searching deep & slow water with heavy flies will find fish this time of year. Jigged nymphs, perdigons, and tungsten bead head patterns in general are good options here (sizes #12-16).

South Platte River - 11 Mile Canyon

Latest update -- 4/14/2022

Small tippet sizes for both nymph fishing and dry fly fishing will increase your chances of fooling these fish to eat a fly. One of the biggest keys to success in the canyon is your eyes. Make sure to have a good pair polarized sunglasses and use sight fishing to your advantage.

11 Mile Canyon will always be a reliable early spring option. Current flows are encouraging fish to spread out and put on the feed bag. Fish have been found on both dries and nymphs lately- sizes of both midge and baetis lifecycles can range from a #16 down to a #22.

Blue River - at Silverthorne

Latest update -- 4/14/2022

The Blue River through Silverthorne offers anglers the opportunity to catch a 20" trout in the morning and then shop at the Gap in the afternoon. While it may seem strange to park in an outlet mall's parking lot and get wadered up next to a family looking for some afternoon shopping, the fish that reside here can quickly refocus that distraction.

Sight fishing opportunities abound here and the fish are typically very aesthetically pleasing in coloration and size due to the protein-rich diet provided by the dam of Dillon Reservoir.

95.2 CFS through Silverthorne today. Sight fishing with nymphs has been the approach lately. Often times we won't make a cast until a target is found- stay on the move until you find that "happy" fish. A size #18-22 midge or baetis trailed behind #14-16 attractor such as a leech, egg, or worm has been the rig of choice lately.
