Let's be real - Runoff is here. Temperatures in the high country are forecasted to gradually increase and we expect our favorite freestones to rise relatively steadily over the next couple of weeks. While the freestones are going to be rising, there are several short stints of cooler temperatures forecasted for the high country. Similar to what we experienced this past week, this should slow runoff down and provide us with fishable windows. Big nymphs and streamers will be the ticket, but don't be afraid to throw caddis and blue-winged olives even when the river's off-color. Fish still have to eat!
After a relatively brief bump in flows below Cheesman this past week, the flows along the South Platte at Deckers have dropped into the low 200s at the time of filming this update. This change in flows should bring caddis and blue wing dries back into the fold and we'll see fish moving into the riffles to feed heavy on caddis, blue-wings, leeches, scuds, crane flies and the like.
