Big Bugs on the Colorado!

Ivan Orsic / May 23, 2018

Everyone's favorite big ole stoneflies have made their appearance on the mighty Middle Colorado. Frisco guide Josh Diller has been on the river the last two days and has some nice looking adult stonefly eating brown trout to show from it. Josh put together this quick fly tying short last year. Obviously, there was more snow to be had last winter, but with flows at Kremmling around 829 cfs, this will be one of the most fishable salmon fly hatches in some time. Get your Chubby Chernobyls, Rogue Foam Stones, Bullet Head Salmonflies, and Morningwood Specials ready and throw that foam. Nymphing can still be productive, especially in the mornings. Check out our fishing reports for the most up-to-date info.
