Five for Fall

Ivan Orsic / Sep 21, 2018

Fall is one of our favorite times to be on the water. Changing colors and landscapes, hungry fish, and fewer people on the river are among the many reasons we love the season.

There's no question that the weather conditions during fall in the Rockies can vary quite a bit over the course of a day out on the water, so proper layering is key to staying comfortable and productive on the water, especially while you're ripping streamers.

With that in mind, here are five essentials pieces of gear you need for the upcoming season.

SIMMS MIDSTREAM INSULATED VEST

Vests and fall go together like brown trout and streamers. The new line of Midstream Insulated pieces, including the Midstream Insulated Jacket and the Midstream Insulated Pullover, features PrimaLoft Gold for the highest warmth-to-weight ratio available with synthetic insulation. That means you can stay comfortable in the cold without being over-bundled and rendered immobile with thick, heavy layering. The Midstream Insulated series has a smooth Pertex face to stop the wind, as well.

SIMMS ULTRA-WOOL CORE BOTTOM

We've been wet wading all summer, but it's time to get real. Water temperatures and air temperatures are going to start to fall and nothing ends your day quicker than some cold legs. The new SIMMS Ultra-Wool Core Bottom is a great foundation to the proper fall layering system. The odor-resistant wool blend is soft against the skin and breathes naturally to keep you dry and warm in a wide range of temperatures and conditions. Looking to complete the Ultra-Wool Core Layering system, check out the Simms Ultra-Wool Core Top.

SIMMS G3 GUIDE STOCKINGFOOT RIVER CAMO WADERS

Fall generally means low water. Low water means spookier fish. If you're looking for that extra advantage, look no further than the Simms G3 Stockingfoot River Camo Waders. SIMMS collaborated with Veil Camo to design the first camo that helps anglers remain unseen by fish. Combine that Veil Camo with the industry standard 4-layer GORE-TEX and you've got a fall essential through and through.

SCIENTIFIC ANGLERS SONAR TITAN INT / SINK 3 / SINK 5 FLY LINE

Stripping streamers for those big fall trophies, the Sonar Titan INT/SINK3/SINK 5 Fly Line from Scientific Anglers is a triple-density sinking fly line that casts like a floating line. This fly line provides a straight-line connection to your streamer and allows you to leave the chucking and ducking in the past.

SIMMS RIVERBANK PULL-ON BOOT/SIMMS RIVERBANK CHUKKA BOOT

Fall in your drift boat just got a lot more comfortable. The Pull-On Boot is fully waterproof and insulated, so it gets you from the truck to the bank to the boat - and back again and keeps you comfortable the entire time.
