Trouts Fly Fishing Forecast | April 24th Edition

Ivan Orsic / Apr 24, 2021

After a quick glance at the flows and the weather, we're looking at a really nice two week window of spring fishing. On cloudy days, look for solid blue-winged olive hatches on freestones and tailwaters, alike. Streamers will also get the job done when the clouds roll through. Mother's Day caddis are on the move subsurface and we expect them to become more active as we progress into May.

Otherwise, stoneflies, midges, worms, eggs, leeches, craneflies, and the like will continue to put fish in the net. While there's always a chance that flows on freestones will bump with valley snow melt, the makings of an extremely productive couple of weeks on the water are in place and we're pretty excited about it. Stillwaters are starting to open in both South and North Park and if you're looking to switch it up, there are hungry, sizable trout to be had if you're into that kind of thing.

We've mentioned it before, but it's important to keep the flow charts/hydrographs at your fingertips this time of year, as there can be some flow fluctuations that can impact fishing. Otherwise, it's a great time to be out on the water and enjoy the fruits of spring!
