Meet the Trouts Crew || Eric Conrad AKA Conrad

Ivan Orsic / Oct 17, 2020

With the move to the new and bigger shop, there are a lot of masked faces around the shop these days and we wanted to familiarize you with the team. Over the next couple of weeks or months, we'll be "introducing" you to some of the more familiar faces around the shop. Today, we're talking with the one and only - Eric Conrad also known as Conrad...or Connie.

Conrad has been part of the Trouts team for more than a year. Anyone who's talked with Conrad knows the man runs on enthusiasm and passion for the outdoors. He's a wild man who likes wild freestones. While he's been around the block for a bit, we wanted to officially introduce him on the blog. With all that in mind, we wanted to give you the opportunity to get to know Conrad. Without further adieu, let's see what makes Senor Conrad tick on the water.

Trouts: Let's start this from the top- how did you get your start fly-fishing and what keeps you heading back to the river every chance you get?

EC: I lived up in the high country for about 11 years and snowboarded a lot. As a result, I got hurt more times than I can count on two hands. I wanted something that I could still do outside and avoid going under the knife every season. I asked my good friend, Tyler Mills who was and still is a fishy human, to show me the ropes. After snagging a few friends, losing a lot of flies, and drinking a couple of beers, I caught on and the rest is history.

Trouts: Describe your perfect day on the water?

EC: That's a hard question for me. Ideally, it's waking up at 3 AM, chugging coffee, and driving with my boat in toe up to the Colorado River with a cooler full of beer, sandwiches, and various refreshments.

Trouts: If you could only fish one fly in Colorado for the next 365 days, what would it be and why?

EC: Sadly my answer is probably as generic as the next, but any size soft hackle pheasant tail is my go-to.

Trouts: Favorite place you've ever fished?

EC: Man, recently it's been the Madison River in Montana. But, before that, it was Ascension Bay.

Trouts: Favorite river in Colorado?

EC: The Blue River will always hold a special place in my heart because it's the place that taught me how to fish. But since I've owned a boat, the Colorado is my favorite. That river holds so many sizeable fish and the views will almost make you cry.

Trouts: Destination to dream about?

TB: Any and every saltwater destination, specifically Mexico.

Trouts: What is the best piece of fishing advice you've ever been given?

TB: Presentation is king.

Trouts: When not fishing, what are we most likely to find you doing?

TB: Ripping trail on my bike, hiking with my beautiful girlfriend, Petra, or hanging around Trouts. Till next time.
