Ivan Orsic / Oct 28, 2013

Scott Willoughby, from the Denver Post, always has interesting local outdoor stories to share. This one isn’t a fly fishing story specifically, but it should be of interest to anyone who wades the South Platte River.

“While exploring the changed river bottom, I started across a small side channel with several inches of flowing water. I have sunk into what I call "quicksand" along the river many times in the past, but never more than knee deep. So I thought little of it when my first few steps across the channel sunk several inches into watery sand and gravel. I took a few more steps, and suddenly dropped!”
