The Tape Deck // A Weekly Playlist (Volume 18)

Brandon Rodriguez / Nov 6, 2021

Look, winter is coming faster than we want it to here in the Centennial State. At least for me anyway. Although I enjoy the cold winter months, I find myself more entertaining the idea of wintertime rather than looking forward to it. But, whether I like it or not, the season is right around the corner, and the last thing I want to be is unprepared. All of this is to say that, instead of a look back on my favorite products this week, I thought it would be a good idea to give you all a look at some winter essentials for 2021. Trust me, and the last thing you want to be in unprepared when a cold front moves in.

As always, if you like this sort of weekly recap and easy listening jams, let me know over email or Instagram. Feedback is always appreciated. Our playlist is brought to you this week by the one and only Scott Battista, hailing from the "O-H"..." I-O" state.

Scott is one of the more friendly midwest characters I've come across. Scott typically works weekends here at the Denver shop, and if you've arrived in the shop before headed out for the weekend, he has probably dialed you in on a few bug patterns as well. Without further ado, let's get into some top winter essentials for 2021. Oh, and some easy listening jams.

Colorado Winter Fishing Essentials

Simms GORE-TEX ExStream Cap

Waterproof, durable GORE-TEX® 2L shell fabric with 100g Primaloft® Gold insulation and quilted ripstop lining
Adjustable cord lock fit
Velcro earflap closure

Simms Dockwear Wool Beanie

There is something to be said about a beanie; they are timeless and a classic staple. Especially if you find yourself on the water during the colder months, make the executive decision this winter to keep the head cold and stay out on the water longer with the Simms Dockwear Wool Beanie.

Simms ExStream Jacket

I am a massive fan of a hoodless jacket. Do I have multiple hooded options in my winter jacket rotation? Of course, however, most of them do not have hoods for my every day and go-to jackets. I think they look sleeker, and if my head gets cold...I will wear a beanie.
I think so highly of this Simms ExStream jacket. It is a PrimaLoft® Silver Thermoplume Blowable 120g Insulation (body), with stitchless quilt construction featuring Cross Core Technology. The jacket also comes equipped with a collared full-zip front which makes it ideal for layering. Oh, how could you forget the zippered handwarmer pockets?

Trouts x Simms Rivershed Quarter Zip

Say hello to the only Quarter-Zip Fleece you will need for either crisp mornings or cool evenings and everything in between. From the office or the patio bar, after early mornings throwing dry flies or on the driving range, the brand new Simms Rivershed Quarter-Zip Fleece is an absolute must-have for the fall and winter season. Truth be told, I love quarter zips and find every excuse in the book to wear one. I am not sure where my affinity for quarter zips came from - maybe it is how sharp a quarter-length zipper looks - but, I think they are the most versatile piece of fall clothing a man can wear.

Simms Wool Half-Finger Glove

It doesn't matter if you are on a frigid day down on the dream stream, swinging axe handles, tying knots, rowing oar handles, or line stripping. We ask a lot of our hands. Treat yours to our Wool Half Finger Glove. This everyday glove gives you warmth and moisture-wicking that only wool offers, plus freedom for your fingertips for all-around outdoor work and play.

Well, folks, that about does it for me this week here at Trouts. As I mentioned before, if you enjoy these sorts of weekly recaps, let me know over email. If you have questions, comments, or lingering thoughts about flies, we have you covered.

As always, come swing by the shop, have a beer on the back deck and enjoy our space. If you enjoyed today's post or have some comments, please send them over to my Instagram or email brandon@troutsflyfishing.com or brandonrod15 on Instagram. As always, get out. Gas up the truck, load up the fly boxes and enjoy the weekend. Oh, and make sure to take The Tape Deck with you.
