Trout Hosted Trip: Egdorf’s Western Alaska Sportfishing

Ivan Orsic / Feb 12, 2015

Alaska- just saying the word brings about images of big rivers, bigger mountains, abundant wildlife, and plentiful fish. Join Trouts as we head off on an Alaska adventure that sure to leave your fly rod bent time and time again! Egdorf’s Western Alaska is a family run operation that has been in continuous operation since 1982. Many people refer the Egdorf’s as the “real Alaska experience”

Fishing: This trip will take place in September, one of the prime times to experience Alaska at its finest. Rest assured, the fish will be feeding with abandon as they pack on the calories necessary to survive an approaching Alaska Winter! This will also be prime time to catch Coho (Silver) Salmon, one of the most exciting freshwater fish to catch on a fly rod. Egdorf’s Westeran Alaska is located along the remote and fish-filled Nushagak River. A literal ‘fish-factory’, the Nushagak is home to Rainbow Trout, Arctic Grayling, Dolly Varden, and receives runs of all five species of Pacific salmon- Chinook, Sockeye, Chum, Coho, and Pink Salmon. Both single and two-handed rods can be utilized to target the numerous inhabitants swimming in the area waters.

Lodging: Athough “tented”, the camp has all the basic essentials for a comfortable Alaska fishing vacation. Sleeping arrangements are two guests per Weatherport tent with mattresses on sleeping cots and electricity. Sleeping bags, clean linens, pillow, towels and more are all included. Bottled water is also provided in each cabin.

Dining: All meals are cooked home-style and include fresh baked breads prepared daily by chef-extraordinaire, Kim Egdorf. Throughout the weeks, guests will enjoy everything from grilled steaks and pork chops, to prime rib and fresh salmon. Each meal is also always topped off by a delicious desert. Breakfast includes meats, eggsto order, cereal and pancakes. Packed lunches will accompany guests as they head out for a full day of fishing.

Travel Details: Guests will travel to the small town of Dillingham via Anchorage nternational Airport. Guests will then be transported by the Egdorf’s to the lodge. It is recommended guests arrive in Dillingham on a Wednesday and overnight at a local inn. Travel to Egdorf’s lodge will commence on Thursday mornings via a fully equipped, Cessna 185 float plane.
