We got MORE bumps. Flows on the South Platte (Cheesman, 11 Mile, and the Dream Stream) have all bumped since our last fly fishing forecast. There are plenty of happy fish and solid summer hatches taking place along the South Platte to keep an angler entertained and engaged. Tricos, PMDs, Blue-Wings, Midges, Caddis, and even a couple of stoneflies are around on the South Platte this time of year. Don't forget to tie on a big bug or two and fish worms, eggs, leeches, craneflies, scuds, and the like when the flows increase on our favorite tailwaters.

With regard to the freestones, the middle Colorado is still holding on strong with plenty of contributions from upstream tributaries. We've been getting great reports of caddis, hopper-dropper, and some trico fishing. We are seeing elevated water temperatures on the lower Colorado, Eagle, and the Roaring Fork. There are voluntary afternoon fishing closures on the Eagle, Roaring Fork, and the Colorado from State Bridge to Red Dirt Creek.

Keep in mind that the high country and warm water options continue to provide great fishing as we progress towards August. Flying ants, Hippie Stompers, and assorted buggy nymphs are always a good place to start if you're headed to higher elevations.
