Trouts Guide Service Report: 5/25

Ivan Orsic / May 25, 2016

Looking at the bookings for both our Denver & Frisco Guide Service, you'd swear mid-summer was already here! We've been out on the water every day over the past couple weeks and the fishing has been outstanding! Flows are still remaining manageable for the most part, however even on the rivers where runoff has kicked into gear, the fishing has remained strong.

Depending on where we've headed, two main game plans have been the norm. On rivers with lower flows, our Guides have been sticking with the baetis, caddis, midge and general attractor patterns to find success. The fish are getting into the riffles early on most days and feeding with enthusiasm. Picking apart rock gardens, shelves and shallower buckets is also producing. For the trips where we've found high water, switching over to the more 'junk' type flies- worms, eggs, stoneflies, flashy attractor nymphs fished close to the bank in the soft water has been all it takes to keep a bend in our customer's fly rods.

The cooler nights have still been keeping quite a bit of snow up in the mountains meaning the peak of runoff is still several weeks or more out. Don't let the high water keep you from getting your wading boots wet though. The fishing has been excellent.

Not sure where you should head? Swing on by the shop or give us a call. Our shop staff has also been on the water a ton lately and can get you dialed in to ensure you find the scaled success you're looking for out there!

Interested in booking a guide trip yourself? Give us a call to arrange your dream fly fishing trip. Between the South Platte, Blue, Williams Fork, Eagle, Colorado, Arkansas, Roaring Fork and Frying Pan we've got a plethora of water waiting for you! Whether you're looking for a half day, full day, or float trip we've got you covered!
