Trouts Guide Service Report: 8/9

Ivan Orsic / Aug 9, 2016

Has anyone else out there found themselves feelings like it's going to be September before we know it?? The summer has been FLYING by around here and we've been out on the water every day over the past few weeks.

The good news with all of this is that it hasn't seemed to matter where our trips have been taking place---the fishing has been incredible! As could be expected for late summer, many of our rivers are at the lowest flow we've seen in many months, however are still holding strong and water temps remain good in most locations.

The morning bite has been slightly better on most days however picking apart the shallow/fast riffles during the afternoons is still causing all of our guides to keep their net handy. To one degree or another, we're still seeing daily hatches of all the standard Western summertime bugs- PMD's, Yellow Sallies, Tricos, a few PMD's, Golden Stones and Caddis. I've also been noticing considerably more hoppers along the riverbanks over the past couple weeks and a Chubby Chernobyl or Amy's Ant is putting considerable fish in the bag.

Long story short- the fishing is great out there and if you're not taking advantage of it you're surely missing out. Covering water, taking note of the bugs you're seeing get active, and most importantly HAVING FUN are the only three ingredients you need to ensure success out there these days!
