Trouts Guide Service Report- Late May

Ivan Orsic / Jun 5, 2015

Due to the 1000+ cfs still coursing through our beloved Deckers stretch of the South Platte, the last few days of May found myself, Lee Molvie and Scott Dickson down in South Park on the Dream Stream. I'll have to say, after the wet May that graced Denver, it sure was nice to spend three days outside without getting rained on. The flows have slightly dropped on the Dream from 400cfs to around 340cfs as of this writing. The water has cleared substantially after the inital spike in flows a few weeks back and could now be mistaken for Hendrick's were it poured in a glass bottle. The fishing was consistent throughout the weekend with the afternoon bite being slightly stronger once the fish began to roam around move into the riffles with more consistency. Dredging the deep green holes proved a stable pattern as well. Worms, Eggs, Baetis and Midge patterns all produced fish and one pattern never totally outshined another for the most part. Covering water seemed to be the name of the game and as always, keeping our eyes peeled for sight-fishing opportunities added quite a few fish to the 3 day total. In all we had 11 customers spread amongst the 3 days and almost all of them were going after their first fish on the fly. I guess there's no better way to sum it up than by saying it was a great weekend, on a great river, with a bunch of great customers (who by the way, all caught fish). You can't ask for much more than that. Give us a call or swing by the shop to book your very own Guided Trip today!
