Trouts Proudly Welcomes Alex Kass To the Team!

Ivan Orsic / Jun 25, 2018

Things have been a bit busy around the shop this summer. So much so, that we've neglected to formally introduce Alex Kass, our new Online Manager here at Trouts Fly Fishing. Alex hails from southeast Wisconsin, but moved here to Colorado in high school and has been exploring this great state for almost a decade. We're excited to have him on board. Shoot him a quick live chat next time your browsing our website!

Read on to get know a little more about Alex and be sure to say hi next time you're in the shop!

Trouts: Let's start this from the top - how did you get your start fly-fishing and what keeps you heading back to the river every chance you get?

Growing up in southeast Wisconsin I was surrounded by lakes and fishing opportunities. On top of that my father had me on the water fishing since I could walk. Flash forward to moving to Frisco, Colorado in high school I dove into the world of trout fly fishing on the Blue River. Now, nearly a decade later I haven’t let off the gas in terms of exploring new water, meeting new friends, getting outside, and throwing bugs every species I can find.

The adventure, people I meet, new places I get to explore is never ending and that is exactly what keeps me coming back.

Trouts: Describe your perfect day on the water?

Good friends, cold beer, rising or aggressive streamer eating trout, some nice cloud cover, and my pup Moose.

Trouts: If you could only fish one fly in Colorado for the next 365 days, what would it be and why?

Size 12 Royal Chubby Chernobyl, who doesn’t love throwing massive pieces of foam at willing trout.

Trouts: Favorite place you've ever fished?

While I mostly stick to freshwater, when I have the opportunity to make it down to our place in Florida there is nothing like heading into the everglades for some triple digit Tarpon.

Trouts: Favorite river in Colorado?

The Colorado, depending on what you want or where you go the options are endless.

Trouts: Destination to dream about?

Seychelles: GT’s, Indo-Pacific Permit, and countless other exotic salt species, who doesn’t dream about going there?

Trouts: What is the best piece of fishing advice you've ever been given?

It’s fishing not catching. Never worry about how the fishing is, enjoy where you are, who your with regardless of the conditions, that’s what it’s all about.

Trouts: When not fishing, what are we most likely to find you doing?

Hopping around breweries in Denver, camping all over the state, split boarding the backcountry all through winter, & sitting way up high at the Rockies games.
