Current River Flow Updates

Latest update: 1/13/22--

Flows are around 70 CFS below Strontia. There are reports of ice coverage in the lower reaches of the canyon, so be ready for the long walk to the top to find some open water. The smaller/heavier nymphs mentioned below in sizes #14-18 are good starting points. Many different flies work here, but having the correct depth and weight is imperative. Be sure to adjust that before any fly changes.

River Information

Waterton Canyon is a very good fishery located close to home that will always produce a few fish. Here at the fly shop, we believe that Waterton is one of the top locations in the front range to either learn to fish, teach someone to fish, or even practice a new style of fishing. Due to this stretch being located in a canyon, it will eventually gather quite a bit of ice on the edges. The weeks before the freeze are a fantastic time to intercept a few fish while they are fattening up for winter.
