South Platte River - Waterton Canyon

Weather @SOUTH PLATTE BASIN - Updated January 18, 2021 - 11:49pm by OpenWeather

Current River Flow Updates

Latest update: 1/12/21--

Flows below Strontia Springs Reservoir are around 31 CFS. Fishable water exists just below the dam, but you will have to walk a ways to get there. Surely make a day trip out of it. Fishing is slow but this area is always good for a fish or two. Standard winter nymphs are working just fine- eggs, worms, tiny midge/baetis, etc.. Monitor your depth frequently and change as needed.

River Information

Waterton Canyon is a very good fishery located close to home that will always produce a few fish. Here at the fly shop, we believe that Waterton is one of the top locations in the front range to either learn to fish, teach someone to fish, or even practice a new style of fishing. Due to this stretch being located in a canyon, it will eventually gather quite a bit of ice on the edges. The weeks before the freeze are a fantastic time to intercept a few fish while they are fattening up for winter.
